Opening Contracts

NOTE-- In 2000 we retired the MacNail construction software package. Goldenseal is the successor-- it's a complete software package for Macintosh and Windows that handles contract writing, plus accounting, construction estimating, and project management, Goldenseal also creates text files for contracts, that you'll open with a word processor program.

Opening a Contract

To open a contract created in word processor format by the MacNail project management software, follow these steps:

1. Switch to any word processor program.
2. Choose Open from the File menu.
3. If necessary, navigate to the Contracts folder, located inside the Spec Writer folder (see page 57).
4. Open the desired Contract file.

If the contract is already open from another program, or if Spec Writer was interrupted while the contract was being prepared, you may be told that you can't open the file. To open it in that case, follow these steps:

1. Quit from Excel and from any other programs that are currently open.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Try to open the file again.

If you used the MacNail construction management software to create a contract in spreadsheet format, you can use Spec Writer's menu commands to access it quickly.

To do so, follow these steps:
1. Choose Open File from the File menu.
2. Select Contracts as a file type to look at, then click OK.
3. Select the contract to open, then click OK.
