Formatting Contract Text

NOTE-- We retired MacNail Spec Writer and the rest of the MacNail construction software, back in 2000. At that time we replaced it with Goldenseal, a complete software package for Macintosh and Windows that handles contract writing, plus accounting, construction estimating, and project management, These manuals are still online as a courtesy to die-hard MacNail users. Goldenseal is a huge improvement over MacNail, with many new features, and a simpler interface.

Excel Contract Formatting Options

There are many formatting options available to you in Excel. This section mentions a few of the more common things you can do to contract documents created from the MacNail construction management software.

Create Bolds and Italics

You can improve the look of your contracts with careful use of bold, italic, bold italic and other text styles.

To change the style of text in a spreadsheet contract, follow these steps:
1. Select the cells whose style you'd like to change.
2. If you have the toolbar showing, click on the bold B or italic I buttons. If not, choose Font from the Format menu, and turn on the desired style.

Change Fonts and Font sizes

You can often improve the look of your contracts by using larger text for section headings, and smaller text for footnotes or less important sections of text.

You can also change the font itself to create a different look-- a sans-serif font looks more modern than a more traditional serif font, for example, while serif fonts (such as in this manual) are generally more easy to read.

To change the font or font size in a spreadsheet contract:
1. Select the cells whose style you'd like to change.
2. Choose Font from the Format menu, and select the desired font and font size.
