Contract Text from Excel

NOTE-- We retired MacNail Spec Writer and the rest of the MacNail construction software, back in 2000. It has been replaced with Goldenseal, a complete software package for Macintosh and Windows that handles contract writing, plus accounting, construction estimating, and project management, Goldenseal does not require Excel, so you can enter contract text directly into the Goldenseal program, with no short character limits.

Creating Headers & Footers with Excel

If you don't have a word processor program, you can also use Excel to create header and footer files for the MacNail construction management software. You'll only be able to have 255 characters per line, however, so you won't be able to create paragraphs that are as long as those created with a word processor.

To create a header or footer in Excel, follow these steps:

1. Choose New from the File menu.
2. Click in the first cell of the worksheet.
3. Type in the first line of text, or copy it from another document, and paste it into the new file.
4. Type the return key to move to the next cell down, and continue entering the next line of text.
5. Repeat step 4 until all text has been entered.
6. Choose Save As from the File menu.
7. Navigate to the Headers & Footers folder inside Spec Writer Folder.
8. Click the Options button, and choose the Text format.
9. Type in a name for the file, then click Save.
