Irregular Nouns

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail construction software back in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal, a complete software package for Macintosh and Windows. Goldenseal is an integrated construction business program that includes construction spec writing, plus accounting, construction estimating, and project management, For contracts, Goldenseal uses a simpler method of specifying irregular plurals for nouns.

Irregular Nouns

If you include the quantity (QTY) in the Noun column of a clause, the last word in the phrase should always be entered in the singular form. Spec Writer will automatically change it into a plural if there is more than one of the item.

Most nouns are turned into plurals by adding either -es (if the word ends with an 's', 'x' or 'z') or -s (if it ends with any other letter). Spec Writer will properly pluralize such 'normal' nouns without any additional effort on your part.

Any words that are pluralized differently should be added to the table of irregular nouns. For example, any of the following may be irregular nouns:

* Words ending in -y.
* Words ending in -th, -sh, or -ch.
* 'Compound' nouns such as window or door
* Any other nouns with non-standard plurals.

To change the plural form of an existing noun in the MacNail construction management software:
1. Choose Irregular Nouns from the Options menu.
2. Click on the noun you'd like to change, then click the Edit button.
3. Type in the new noun forms, then click OK.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each noun you'd like to change.
5. Click Done when you are finished with the list.
