Construction Clause Text Limits |
NOTE-- We retired MacNail in 2000. and replaced it with Goldenseal-- a complete software package for construction and small business, that runs on Macintosh and Windows computers. Goldenseal includes construction spec writing, plus accounting, construction estimating, and project management, There is a similar limit for text in Goldenseal contract clauses, although you can add huge amounts of text in contract headers and footers. How much Text can go in a clause? Each component of a clause is limited to a maximum of 255 characters (including spaces and punctuation marks). NOTE: Nouns that include QTY should be restricted to about 150-200 characters, since QTY will be replaced by the actual quantity, including 'approximately' and/or the 'spelled out' version of the number if those options are selected (see page 42). Since a contract clause is built up of several components from the MacNail construction management software, the overall clause can be longer than 255 characters. HINT: If you need a really long phrase in
a Spec Sheet, enter it as a Cell Note (see page 38). To give you an idea of how much can be said in just 255 characters, this paragraph here (which would much rather be in a steamy, passion-filled trash novel, instead of this boring old software manual) contains exactly forty-three words and 255 characters. |
