Construction Clauses with Extras

NOTE-- We retired MacNail in 2000. and replaced it with Goldenseal-- a complete software package for construction and small business, that runs on Macintosh and Windows computers. Goldenseal includes construction spec writing, plus accounting, construction estimating, and project management, Contract clauses in Goldenseal use a much simpler method of text substitution, so you don't have to worry about parts of speech in them!

Coining a Phrase-- with Clause Extras

Some sentence parts are used in many contract clauses within the MacNail construction management software. Save space (and typing) by entering them as a Clause Extra.

For example, you can use a Clause Extra to create the following clause:

Contractor will remove all unruly plastic flamingoes from the yard, according to state and local building codes.

You'll enter it as follows:
Who-- Contractor
Verb-- remove
Noun-- all unruly plastic flamingoes
Details-- from the yard
Extras -- codeSpecs

When the clause is created, codeSpecs will be replaced with the phrase according to state and local building codes.

NOTE: To edit Clause Extras, click the Extras column title, or choose Clause Extras from the Options menu.

Coining a Phrase-- as a Cell Note

If you would rather use simple text to create contract clauses, follow these steps:

1. On the Clauses file, click in the first (code) column of the row where you'd like to enter contract text.
2. Choose Note from the Formula menu.
3. Type in the text you'd like to use in the contract, then click OK.
NOTE: Spec Writer does not support quantities, plurals, clause extras, or any other 'smart grammar' features in notes. You must type in the text exactly as you'd like it to appear in the contract.
4. When you enter a note in the first column, the rest of that line will be ignored by the MacNail project management software.
