Construction Allowance Options

NOTE-- MacNail construction software was retired in 2000. and replaced with Goldenseal-- which handles construction spec writing, plus accounting, construction estimating, and project management, This manual is still online, as a courtesy to die-hard MacNail users! Any Goldenseal contract can include specifications from an allowance (which also handles project billing for the allowance amount).

More Allowance Options

Turn on the List Allowances in Separate File option to create a separate Allowances file that includes all clauses that have been allowanced. The regular contract file will include only non-allowanced items.

NOTE: Turn this option off if you want the MacNail construction management software to include allowances in the same file as the rest of the contract.

Turn on the Use Allowances flagged in Clauses File checkbox to allowance any items that are flagged as allowances in the Clauses file (see page 71).

NOTE: Items flagged with an L will use a Labor & Materials allowance, while items flagged with an M will use a Materials Only allowance.

Turn on the Use Allowances flagged in Estimate option to allowance any items flagged as allowances in the estimate, project list or schedule (see page 70).

NOTE: If you turn on the option to use allowances flagged in both the Clauses file and the estimate, any item flagged in either the Clauses file or the estimate will be allowanced. If you turn both options off, nothing will be treated as an allowance, whether or not it is flagged.

Once you have entered your choices for the handling of allowances, click OK. Click Cancel to return to the original settings for Allowance Options.

WARNING: Since project schedules do not include labor costs, any allowances made from a schedule will be treated as Materials Only, no matter what is flagged on the estimate or Clauses file in the MacNail project management software.

See page 67 to 77 for more about the handling of allowances.
