NOTE-- In
2000 we retired MacNail and BidMagic (our earlier estimating
programs), and replaced them with Goldenseal construction
estimating software. There are still die-hard MacNail users, for
whom we keep the manuals online. Goldenseal also includes accounting, job
costing and project
management. You can use a similar approach to create 'what if' estimates
in Goldenseal.
What-Ifs
In some cases you may want to see the price change
caused by a change in dimensions or specifications. To run through such a 'what-if', follow these steps
in the MacNail construction estimating software:
1. Choose *Reset Windows from the FORMAT menu. The estimate will be split into four smaller windows--Dimensions,
Summation, Clearinghouse, and Specifications.
2. Click on either the Dimensions window (upper left) or the Specifications window (upper right). Use the
scroll controls to find the item you want to change.
3. Note the total bid price (as displayed in the lower right window).
4. Make the desired change in Dimensions or Specifications.
5. Note the new total bid price in the lower right window.
6. You can repeatedly type Command-Z (or choose Undo from the FILE menu) to 'toggle' back and forth between
the old and new price.
7. Choose *Reset Windows from the FORMAT menu. The worksheet will be returned to one large window.
