Extract Special

NOTE-- We retired MacNail estimating in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. You can make itemized reports for estimates, that show you similar information to MacNail extracts.

Extract Special

Choose *Extract Special to get specialized information from the Specifications list of an estimate from the MacNail construction estimating software.

When you choose *Extract Special, a dialog box will allow you to choose the kind of extraction you would like to see.

* Allowances--if this radio button is selected, an extraction of all allowances will be made. An allowance extraction from the McDermott Estimate will be saved as McDermott Allowances. The report will be in the Current reports folder.

NOTE: The allowance report, in combination with MacNail's job costing, will make it easy to settle up on any contract items that are handled as an allowance rather than as a firm price. See page 122 for instructions on 'flagging' an item as an allowance.

* Project List--if one of these radio buttons is selected, you will get a list of all items in the Specifications list that will actually be included as a part of the job. You can get the list either with or without the subdivision headings from the Specifications list. The report will be saved in the Current reports folder. A project list from the McDermott Estimate will be saved as McDermott Project List.

HINT: The project list makes a good checklist if you are writing a contract or a spec sheet. The combination of a Project List and a Condensed Estimate will store all relevant information about an estimate, in a fraction of the space.

An estimate or a project list is needed by MacNail Customizing 3.0 to feed back job costs information to the unit prices entered in your estimators.

* Current Criteria--if this radio button is selected, MacNail will extract a list of all items in the Specifications list that match the criteria that you have entered in MacNail 's Extract area.

The fastest way to get to MacNail's extract area:
1. Choose *Go to Category from the MacNail menu.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the list, and click on 'Extract area'.

To set what you would like MacNail to find, you type into the Criteria line--the boxed cells just below the Criteria headings (line 1454 in this example).
