Copying Estimator Line Items

NOTE-- We retired MacNail estimating software in 2000, and replaced it with the Goldenseal construction estimating program. There are still quite a few MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is an integrated business software program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. It does not require the Excel spreadsheet, and stores all your data in one file.

Copy Construction Line Items (Low Memory)

If you don't have enough RAM to have two construction estimating worksheets open at once, follow these steps:

1. Choose New from the File menu, and make a new worksheet.
2. Open the estimating worksheet you'd like to use as a source. If the worksheet is protected, choose Unprotect Document from the Options menu.
3. Scroll to the Specifications rows that you would like to copy, and drag the mouse through them. Be sure to select all of the worksheet columns-- the selection will be 11 columns wide.
4. Choose Copy from the Edit menu.
5. Choose the name of the new worksheet from the bottom of the Window menu-- it will probably be named something like Worksheet1.
6. Click on the first available blank cell in the first column of the blank worksheet, then choose Paste from the Edit menu.
7. To move more items, repeat steps 3 to 6.
HINT: You may want to label each item with a simple text description so you know where it will go!
8. Close the source estimating worksheet, then open the destination estimating worksheet.
9. Scroll to the rows where you'd like to add the new item(s). If the worksheet is protected, choose Unprotect Document from the Options menu.
10. If necessary, select the desired location and choose Add Rows Here from the Edit menu to add some blank rows.
