Copying Estimator Line Items

NOTE-- We retired MacNail estimating software in 2000, and replaced it with the Goldenseal construction estimating program. There are still quite a few MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is an integrated business software program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. It includes a database of construction assemblies that you can include in any estimates.

Copying Construction Line Items Between Estimates

If you have enough RAM to open two estimating worksheets at once, follow these steps:

1. Open both estimating worksheets by choosing Open File from the File menu.
2. Bring the destination estimating worksheet to the front by choosing its name at the bottom of the Window menu. If the worksheet is protected, choose Unprotect Document from the Options menu.
3. Scroll to the rows where you'd like to add the new item(s). If necessary, select the desired location and choose Add Rows Here from the Edit menu to add some blank rows.
4. Bring the source estimating worksheet to the front by choosing its name at the bottom of the Window menu. If the worksheet is protected, choose Unprotect Document from the Options menu.
5. Scroll to the rows that you would like to copy, and drag the mouse through them. Be sure to select all of the worksheet columns-- the selection will be 11 columns wide.
6. Choose Copy from the Edit menu.
7. Bring the destination estimating worksheet to the front by choosing its name from the bottom of the Window menu.
8. Click on the upper left corner of where the new item(s) should appear, then choose Paste from the Edit menu.
NOTE: If the MacNail construction management software asks you whether to 'use the existing definition of' some items, click OK for each item.
9. To move more items, repeat steps 3 to 8.
10. After you have copied and pasted all desired items, activate each estimating worksheet and choose Protect Document from the Options menu.
11. Choose Save from the File menu to make the changes permanent.
