Stud, Joist & Rafter Spacing

How does Goldenseal use the spacing of studs, joists and rafters, to adjust framing costs?

Goldenseal construction estimating software includes two types of framing Assemblies for walls, floors and ceilings:

  1. Some are general items that adjust their costs, depending on the stud, joist and rafter spacing that you enter into Estimate Dimensions.
  2. Some are specific items that apply to just spacing.

General Wall Framing Assemblies

Assemblies such as 2x4 wood studs- exterior walls can apply to a range of ceiling heights and stud spacings. They use Labor Adjusters and Material Adjusters to calculate the net cost for the project, using the dimensions you entered into the Structural Dimensions screen.

To enter framing dimensions for a construction project, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Estimates from the Income menu.
  2. Locate the estimate you'd like to work on.
  3. Choose Estimate Dimensions from the Options menu, and choose Structural from the submenu. HINT-- You can also click on the Structural button, in the middle of the Estimate window.
  4. Enter the specific framing measurements for the project.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Update Quantities. Goldenseal will automatically recalculate the prices for each framing Assembly.

Specific Wall Framing Assemblies

Assemblies such as 2x4 wall 8' exterior, 16" oc are calculated for a specific ceiling height and stud spacing. They do not use dimension adjustments, and are not affected by changes in the project's ceiling height or stud spacing.

Use specific framing assemblies whenever the project has more than one ceiling height or stud spacing.

HINT-- You can use a general framing assembly for the main part of the project, and then add extra line items for any framing details that are different than "standard".
