Subcontracted Specifications

NOTE-- We retired the complete MacNail construction software package in 2000. and replaced it with Goldenseal-- which handles construction spec writing, plus accounting, construction estimating, and project management, This manual is still online, as a courtesy to die-hard MacNail users! In Goldenseal, you can enter subcontracted work as a subcontractor bid, and then have its line items included in the contract specifications.

Specifications from Subcontractors

Since Spec Writer uses Specifications as a basis for contracts, it won't pick up subcontractor bids that are typed directly into the Clearinghouse or Summation portions of an estimate created in the MacNail construction estimating software.

If you want your contracts to include specs for electrical, plumbing or other items that are normally subcontracted, be sure to enter unit prices for them in the Specifications portion of the MacNail estimate.

HINT: If you typed a subcontractor quote directly into the estimate, the unit prices in Specs will not affect the bid cost for those categories, even though they will be included in the contract in the MacNail project management software .
