Installing-- Macintosh

NOTE-- Goldenseal software for construction companies replaced MacNail, back in 2000. It handles construction spec writing, plus accounting, construction estimating, and project management, This manual is still online, as a courtesy to die-hard MacNail users! The new Goldenseal software is a stand-alone program that uses just one application file and one company file, for data. It's much easier to set up and install.

Installing Spec Writer

Please check the installation instructions that accompany this manual for help in getting Spec Writer installed onto your hard drive.

Folder Setup

All of the Spec Writer files are contained within the Spec Writer folder.

Once the MacNail project management software is installed on your hard drive, do not modify the original setup of folders. Do not rename any of the folders, move them to another location, or move their contents to another location.

The Spec Writer folder should always be located within the same folder as the Estimates, BidMagic and/or Schedules folders, so it will be able to find project estimates in them.

NOTE: Check the appropriate program manuals for the specific files and folders that should be inside the Estimates, BidMagic and Schedules folders.

When you open the Spec Writer folder, you should always see the Spec Manager file, along with the Spec Files folder, the Headers & Footers folder, and the Contracts folder. Except for the Spec Manager, all Spec Writer files should be located inside one of the three folders that are inside the Spec Writer folder.

HINT: If you use System 7 and would like to have a copy of any Spec Writer file elsewhere on your hard disk, make an alias of the file, and move the alias to the new location.
