Specification Writing Menu Basics

NOTE-- MacNail construction software was retired in 2000, and replaced with Goldenseal-- a complete software package for Macintosh and Windows. Goldenseal is a complete construction business software package that includes construction spec writing, plus accounting, construction estimating, and project management, You'll create construction project specifications in Goldenseal, that are very similar to the spec sheets that come from the MacNail Spec Writer. Use them solo, or include them as the Scope of Work in a construction contract.

About Spec Writer Menus

The MacNail construction management software works with the Excel spreadsheet program.

When you open Spec Manager, it removes some of the general Excel menu commands, and replaces them with specialized contract-writing commands.

The Manager always removes the Data, Options and Macro menus from Excel, and replaces them with its own menus-- Specs, Options and Navigate.

NOTE: If your monitor is small, the Excel Formula and Format menus will also be removed, to make room for the Spec Writer menus.

To switch back to the regular Excel menus, choose Excel Menus from the Navigate menu.

To return to Spec Writer when you are in the regular Excel menus, choose Spec Writer Menus from the Window menu.

NOTE: If that command is not available, you'll need to open the Spec Manager!

When you close the Spec Manager, Spec Writer menus and commands are removed from the menu bar, and the regular Excel menus are restored.

NOTE: If you decide to Quit but then cancel the operation before it's completed, you may lose all Spec Writer menus and commands. To restore them, close the Manager, then re-open it.
