Scheduling with Excel 2.2

NOTE-- We retired MacNail in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction software. Goldenseal is designed for builders, remodelers and other small businesses, providing accounting, construction estimating, and project management, plus simple project scheduling. You don't need Excel to run the Goldenseal computer software program.

Using Excel 2.2 For Project Scheduling

Excel version 2.2 includes a few changes and improvements over version 1.5. This section will describe the major differences between Excel 1.5 and Excel 2.2.

Converting MacNail Files

The MacNail construction scheduling software is available in both Excel 1.5 and 2.2 formats. If you have the 1.5 version and later upgrade to Excel 2.2 you should convert all your MacNail files. To do this:
1. While on the desktop, double-click on the MacNail Manager.
2. When asked where to start, click on the General button. If a General button is not available, click Cancel.
3. Choose *Convert to 2.2 from the SPECIAL menu.
4. All MacNail files will be converted. The process may take up to an hour or two, depending on the number of MacNail files you have created and the speed of your computer.

Non-MacNail files will need to be converted to 2.2 format by hand. To do so:
1. Navigate through your folders and Open each file.
NOTE: Files will open slowly since they are being converted by Excel.
2. Select Save As from the File menu.
3. Check to make sure you are located in the correct folder. To change folders in the File Finder, see page 134.
4. Click OK.
5. You 'll be asked if you want to replace the existing version of that file. Click OK.

You will need to repeat this process for each file you want to convert. When all files have been converted, you will see that the icon for each of the files has been changed.

Your MacNail project management software files should now open quickly and work more efficiently under Excel 2.2.
