Project Scheduling Troubleshooting

NOTE-- In 2000 we retired our MacNail construction software program, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction software. Goldenseal is an integrated program that handles accounting, construction estimating, and project management, plus simple construction project scheduling. You don't need Excel to run Goldenseal scheduling software, so it won't produce weird worksheet errors as sometimes happened in MacNail.

#### Appears in a Cell

If a number is too big to display in a cell in the MacNail project management software, #### will appear instead. Make the column width wider. To do so:
1. Click anywhere in the column.
2. Choose Column Width from the Format menu. If the menu item is grey, first choose Unprotect Document from the Options menu.
3. Type in a larger column width.
You may also see #### in a cell if a reference or name error has occurred (see the next item), or if you have used an invalid date (see page 130).

#Value!, #Ref! or #Name? Appears in a Cell

#REF appears in the Master Reminder List when its link with the Master Index has been broken. Open the Master Index if it is not already open. You may need to choose Calculate Now to remove the old #REF values.

This problem can also occur when a non-number is typed into a cell that should have a number value.

NOTE: Typing a space into a cell will cause an error. Excel can not see it like a blank cell, even though it looks like one to you! If you have a mysterious #VALUE error, click on and delete "blank" cells in the row.

#REF errors can also be caused by improper insertions or deletions. Use *Add Rows and *Delete Rows only. Never use Excel's Insert and Delete commands.

NOTE: Be very careful not to eliminate cells or formulas unintentionally if you make major structural changes in the MacNail construction scheduling software. Be ready to revert to a previous saved version if errors start to appear.
