Project Scheduling Dates

NOTE-- In 2000 we retired the MacNail construction software package, and replaced it with Goldenseal software for construction. Goldenseal is designed for builders, remodelers and other small businesses. It's an integrated program that handles accounting, construction estimating, and project management, plus simple project scheduling. You can easily enter dates into Goldenseal, using any format that makes sense.

Entering Project Dates

In the MacNail project management software, you will occasionally want to enter a date. Excel accepts a wide range of date formats. If you type any valid date into a cell, it will be converted to a standard Excel date.

NOTE: The actual display of the date on the screen is changed with the Number command in the Format menu.

Excel gives you several date number formats. You can also create your own custom date formats.
The following are all valid dates:

* 12-1-90, 12-1-1990, or 12-1 (it will be given this year as a default).
* 12/1/90, 12/1/1990, or 12/1 (it will be given this year as a default).
* 1 Dec 90, 1 Dec 1990, or 1 Dec (it will be given this year as a default).
* Dec 1, 90, Dec 1, 1990, or Dec 1 (it will be given this year as a default).

NOTE: Excel will accept the full month name (December), the first three letters (Dec), or any quantity of starting letters (Decem).

If a date displays as ##### in the MacNail construction scheduling software:
* You may have typed in an invalid date format.
* The column width may be too narrow to display the date. Click in the cell, choose Column Width from the Format menu, and type in a larger number.
* The date may be outside the Mac's acceptable range (which ends on February 6, 2040).
