Importing Estimates to Excel

NOTE-- In 2000 we replaced MacNail with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still plenty of die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. This page explains how to export from HyperEstimator and import into MacNail, but both estimating programs are now retired and replaced by Goldenseal.

Auto-open Excel (Hyper*Estimators)

If you turn on the 'Auto-open Excel' button on the OUTPUT card of the Hyper*Estimator, you will begin the import into the MacNail construction estimating software when you finish the export from a Hyper *Estimator.

To use the Auto-open feature:

1. For best results, put all of the following files in the Hyper*Estimates folder (inside the Estimates folder): Hypercard, Home stack, Hyper*Estimator or Hyper*Remodeler, and Look Up Sheet.
NOTE: Have the Transfer Manager in the Estimates folder. Have the estimator you will use in the Estimating blanks folder (see page 14).
2. In the options area of Transfer MANAGER type TRUE into the cell labeled 'start on opening'.
3. Open a Hyper*Estimator.

4. Jump to the Fixed Data 2 card (click the FIXED COSTS button, then click the DATABASE button at lower right, then click the 'right arrow').
5. Type in the name of your Excel application. For example, 'Microsoft Excel 1.5'. Use in the name that shows for the Excel file on your desktop.
6. Jump to the Output card (click the OUTPUT button at the bottom of the screen).
7. Click to check the Auto-open Excel button.
8. Click the Export Estimate to MacNail button.
9. When the Hypercard transfer is complete, the Transfer MANAGER will open automatically.
10. When you Quit from Excel, you will return to the Hyper *Estimator.

The next time you transfer, you will only have to go through steps 8 and 9.
