New Cost Categories (no Subcategories)

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail estimating program in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. It also uses cost categories and subcategories to classify expenses and construction estimating divisions.

New Main Categories

If the estimate does not include subcategories

4a. You'll be shown a dialog box where you can enter detailed information about the new category (see following page). Type in a category code-- it can be any number or text that does not include a period. Also type in a category name, and the number of blank Specifications line items to include in the new category.
5. In the same dialog, click on one of the three methods of computing costs, then click on one of the skilled wage rates from the scrolling list. You may also type in a skilled wage rate, although it must be a wage rate that is already defined in the Fixed Costs portion of the construction estimating worksheet.
6. When all information is entered into the dialog box, click OK.
7. The MacNail construction management software will create a new cost category.
