Adding New Main Categories

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail estimating program in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. It lets you set up category systems, with a hierarchy of main categories and subcategories for overhead expenses or construction costs.

New Main Category (with Subcategories)

If the estimate does include subcategories

4b. You will first be asked for a cost code, a name for the new main category, and the number of subcategories that it will have (any number between 1 and 99). Enter this information, then click OK.
5. You will next be asked for further information about each subcategory. Type in a subcategory name, the number of blank lines you'd like to have included in Specifications, the method to use for calculating labor/materials/subs, and the skilled wage rate to use, then click OK.
6. Repeat step 5 for each of the subcategories that you want to have listed under the new main category. Click Cancel at any time to stop adding new subcategories in this portion of the MacNail construction management software.
7. A new cost category, with subcategories, will be created automatically. The new subcategories will be displayed in the Specifications and Clearinghouse portions of the estimating worksheet. The new main category will be seen in the Clearinghouse and Summation.
