Cleaning Up Estimates

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail estimating program in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still a significant number of die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing.

Clean Up Estimates

MacNail Customizing will help you to automatically remove large quantities of items from the Specifications portion of an estimating worksheet, so you won't have to use Delete Rows over and over again.

To 'clean up' unwanted items from Specifications in an estimator from the MacNail construction estimating software:
1. Open the estimate or estimator. If the worksheet is protected, choose Unprotect Document from the Options menu.
2. If you are not already in Specifications, choose Specifications from the MacNail (McN) menu. Scroll through Specifications, and look for any line items that you would like removed.
3. Click in the first (item name) column in each line you'd like to remove, and type the Delete or Backspace key to remove its text.
WARNING: Don't remove the item names that are category titles! If you'd like to remove an entire cost category, use the Delete Category command instead (see page 41).
4. When you've deleted the item names from all desired rows, choose Remove Blank Specs from the Format menu.
5. The MacNail construction management software will check the estimating worksheet, and each row that has been 'blanked out' in the title row will be deleted. It may take a while!
