Duplicate Codes

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail estimating program in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still a significant number of die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing.

Estimating Category Codes

MacNail Customizing may produce erroneous results if you have duplicate item codes in an estimating worksheet or Price Master, or duplicate material codes in a Price Sheet or Comparisons file. To make sure you haven't accidentally created duplicate code numbers in these files, use the Check for Duplicates command.

To check for duplicates in the MacNail construction management software:

1. Make sure the file to be inspected is the active document (in front).
2. If you want to check the entire worksheet, proceed to the next step. In an estimate or estimator you also can check just the selected items-- to do so, first drag the mouse through all the rows you'd like to check.
3. Choose Check for Duplicates from the Formula menu.
4. If the file is an estimating worksheet, you'll be asked whether to check just the selected items. Click Yes to check just those items, or click No to check for the entire worksheet.
5. The worksheet will be checked for duplicates-- it may take a while.
6. You'll be warned about any duplicates that are found. If you are checking just the selected range, you'll be told about them via a series of alert boxes. If you are checking the entire worksheet, a temporary file will be created, listing all of the duplicated items.
