Checking for Duplicates

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail estimating program in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still a significant number of die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. Goldenseal also can check for duplicate records, although it doesn't use code numbers and doesn't need you to check for duplicates there.

Check for Duplicates

Use the Check for Duplicates command to make sure there are no duplicate codes in an Estimate, Estimator, Price Master or Price Sheet. Duplicate codes can cause problems, since the MacNail construction management software may refer to the incorrect line when you use the code in other worksheets.

To check for duplicates:

1. Open the file you'd like to check.
2. If you want to check just some items, drag the mouse through those rows you'd like to check.
3. Choose Check for Duplicates from the Formula menu.
4. Click either 'All Rows' or 'Selected Rows only', then click OK.
5. If you are checking all rows, a temporary file will be created that will list all of the duplicated items. After you are finished with the temporary list of duplicates, close the file and don't save changes.

If you are checking just the selected rows, you'll be alerted for each duplicate as it is found.

HINT: To make it easier to find the duplicated rows, you might want to choose Display from the Options menu, and turn on Row and Column Headings!

If no duplicates are found at all, you'll be alerted to that fact.
