Setting Windows File Registry

Problem

Windows version-- double-click on company file doesn't open Goldenseal business management software. Icon shows up as something other than Goldenseal's tree.

Some of these things apply to Mac OS X also.

Diagnosis

Is the file extension correct? Click on file and see what Windows says it is-- the file extension for a Goldenseal company file should be .glds

HINT-- Sometimes file diagnoses are easier if you turn on the display of file extensions.

If registry is screwed up, it's often easier to just un-install and then install again. User can also change extension registry (explained below).

Solution

WIN 98-- click Start button, choose Settings, open Folder Options. Click the File Types tab. You can delete items, add items, or change the application (.EXE) which opens a given file extension.

WIN 2000 and XP-- click Start button, choose Settings, choose Control Panel. open Folder Options. Click the File Types tab. You can delete items, add items, or change the application (.EXE) which opens a given file extension.

WIN Vista and 7-- click Start button, choose Settings, choose Control Panel. Click Programs, then click Make a file type always in a specific program under Default Programs.
