Sales Tax Payments

Problem

Sales taxes due to the tax agency don't show in the Pay Bills window for Goldenseal accounting software.

Diagnosis

1. Check the Customer Sales Tax. Must have payee account filled in there. If they added the account recently, previous sales will still not have tax due, since the tax payment is posted when they enter the Sales transaction.

2. Try a later cutoff date in the Pay Bills window. The tax may not be due yet.

3. Check status for the "pay to" Other Cost account-- if Inactive or Closed, taxes for that account won't be listed.

Solution

If they added tax "paid to" recently, it will be a pain to go back and redo sales tax posting, to catch the taxes due. Probably easier to calculate the tax balance by their previous method, and then enter a simple Other Cost transaction for that amount. At least Goldenseal accounting software will track sales tax amounts for all future sales.
