Estimating Window Costs

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

The BidMagic construction cost estimating software includes unit costs for windows and window installation.

Windows Estimating

The Windows card covers windows, plus window repairs and accessories.

NOTE: Skylights are handled on the Roofing card.

Wood Windows includes new and replacement wood windows, whether fixed pane, double-hung, casement, awning, slider or combination. A representative sampling of unit prices is included.

HINT: To have line items start out with an unlocked field, hold down the Option key when you click on the pop-up button. It will save you from having to unlock the padlock for each item!

Metal Windows includes new and replacement metal windows, whether fixed pane, double-hung, casement, awning, slider or combination.

Custom Windows covers bay windows, bow windows, and any specialty windows. You'll often enter one-of-a-kind windows into this subcategory, using the 'other item' choice.

Window Repairs includes storm windows, new sash, new glass, and other repairs.

Hardware & Screens includes window latches and cranks, and other window hardware.
Other Windows gives you a place to enter any other costs that would logically fall into the windows category.

Window Counts

The Windows card automatically tracks the number of 'unallocated' windows. It takes the number of windows entered into the Miscellaneous Dimensions card, and subtracts the number of items included in the Wood Windows, Metal Windows and Custom Windows subcategories. This unallocated number is displayed at lower right--it will help you make sure you don't accidentally forget any windows!
