NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

The BidMagic construction estimating software includes unit costs for special construction.

Special Construction Estimating

The Special Construction category covers several special construction items that don't fit conveniently elsewhere. To get to the Special Construction card, click on the Specialty Work button in the Specs Directory, then choose Special Construction from the pop-up menu.

NOTE: The distinction between Specialties and Special Construction is pretty arbitrary. We make the split to be compatible with the CSI system, which puts them in separate divisions!

Special Construction Subcategories

BidMagic estimating software divides the Special Construction category into several cost subcategories:

Pools & Ponds includes excavation and construction of swimming pools, ornamental pools or large ponds.

Greenhouse & Solar handles solaria, attached or detached greenhouses, solar collectors, and other similar items.

Sheds & Barns covers any outbuildings, whether detached or semi-attached.

Handicapped Access includes ramps, special grab bars and other similar items.

Conveying Systems can cover stair lifts, elevators or dumbwaiters. It is included as a separate subcategory since it is given a separate CSI category, if you choose to view the Bottom Line using that system (see page 96).

Other Special Construction is a 'grab-bag' subcategory that provides you with a place to put anything that doesn't fall under some other subcategory, somewhere in BidMagic.
