Estimating Knee Walls

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

Knee Walls

Knee walls don't extend all the way to the ceiling. They should be entered into Basic Dimensions or the Room cards just as if they were full-height walls, since they still require baseboard, and usually take just as long to frame as full-height walls.

If you have a large number of knee walls, you may want to reduce the quantity for Interior Wall Area on the Finish Dimensions card, to account for the 'missing' area caused by the shorter walls.

When choosing wall framing in Specifications, use one of the knee wall line items--although small quantities of knee walls are usually safe to treat as regular walls, since the additional labor they require tends to cancel out the reduced material cost.
