Estimating Interior Trim

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

The BidMagic construction estimating software includes unit costs for interior trim-- including baseboards, stairs, window trim, door trim and trim hardware.

Interior Trim Estimating

The Interior Trim category includes interior casings and window sills, baseboards, shelving, and other interior trim work. To get to the Interior Trim card, click on the Interior Work button on the Specs Directory, then choose Interior Trim from the pop-up menu.

Interior Trim Cost Subcategories

BidMagic estimating software divides Interior Trim into several subcategories:

Window Trim handles window casings, sills, mullions and any other window trim details.

Door Trim covers door jambs on carpenter-hung doors, plus interior door casings on all doors (including the inside surface of exterior doors), and other door trim. Thresholds are covered under Door Accessories on the Doors card.

NOTE: The suggested quantity for door jambs is based on the number of custom doors entered on the Miscellaneous Dimensions card. The suggested number of casings is based on the total number of doors. Adjust the suggested formula for casings if you typically use prehung doors with casings already installed.

Baseboard covers baseboards, floor shoes, base caps, and other mouldings along the floor surface.

Shelving includes shelving in bedroom and linen closets, as well as any other built-in shelving. You might prefer to include highly custom built-in shelving under Cabinetry instead.

Interior Stairs includes stair treads and risers, plus landings, winders, hand railings, newel posts, and other interior stair trim.

NOTE: We've found that the cost of interior stairs varies widely. On most projects you should take some time and carefully estimate the actual work involved in stair trim. Any work not already included in the Price Book should be added as an 'other' item.

Trim Hardware covers nails, screws, glue, and specialty trim hardware.

Other Interior Trim includes crown and picture mouldings, chair rail, and other interior trim not covered in one of the other categories on this card.

HINT: If you can't read the entire name of a line item, click on the text of the name--you'll temporarily be able to see the entire name.
