Estimating Insulation

The BidMagic construction estimating software includes unit costs for insulation and vents.

Insulation Estimating

The Insulation category covers estimating costs for all thermal and acoustical insulation materials.

NOTE: If you subcontract insulation for a flat fee, you can enter the actual bid directly instead of itemizing costs (see page 255).

Insulation Subcategories

BidMagic estimating software divides the Insulation category into several subcategories:

Foundation Waterproofing includes asphalt or cement parging on the outside of foundation walls.

Perimeter & Slab Insulation handles foam insulation on the outside of foundations. Stucco coatings over this insulation will be covered under Stucco on the Masonry card, unless they are handled by the insulation crew and you want to add them as new line items here.

NOTE: The thickness of foundation insulation is set on the Finish Dimensions card (see page 244).

Floor Insulation covers insulation in or under floors.

NOTE: The thickness of floor insulation is set on the Finish Dimensions card.

Wall Insulation covers insulation in or outside of walls. It includes both thermal insulation in exterior walls, and acoustic insulation in interior walls.

NOTE: The thickness of wall insulation is set on the Finish Dimensions card.

Roof Insulation covers insulation in, under or on top of roof framing.

NOTE: The thickness of roof insulation is set on the Finish Dimensions card.

Vents & Vapor Barriers includes ridge, soffit, gable and other roof venting. It also includes vapor barriers on inside surfaces.

NOTE: Exterior 'house wrap' is entered under Weatherproofing on the Siding card.

Caulking & Sealants includes caulking, silicone, and other flexible sealing materials.

Other Insulation gives you a place to put any other insulation costs that don't fall under one of the existing categories.
