Estimating Flooring

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

The BidMagic construction estimating software includes unit costs for flooring and carpeting.

Flooring Estimating

The flooring category covers floor materials such as carpet, wood and vinyl flooring.

NOTE: Tile and slate flooring are found on the Tile & Glass card (see page 316).

Flooring Cost Subcategories

BidMagic flooring estimating software splits flooring costs into several subcategories:

New Wood Flooring includes softwood and hardwood flooring.

Vinyl & Tile Flooring includes sheet vinyl and composition tile flooring, and related flooring materials.

Carpeting covers carpeting and pads.

Floor refinishing handles floor sanding and other refinishing prices

Other Flooring gives you a place to put any other flooring costs not otherwise covered on this card.

Total Flooring Area

The Flooring card automatically tracks the amount of 'unallocated' flooring. It takes the floor area from the Finish Dimensions card, and subtracts the area from the New Wood Flooring, Vinyl & Tile, Carpeting and Refinishing subcategories on the Flooring card, as well as the Floor Tile subcategory from the Ceramic & Glass card. The unallocated area is displayed at lower right--it will help you make sure you don't accidentally forget any floor coverings!

NOTE: Unallocated flooring subtracts a square yard (9 square feet) for any line item with a 'y' in its unit size. It subtracts one square foot for any other line items.
