Using BidMagic 1.2 Bids with 1.5

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

Using BidMagic 1.2 Bids With BidMagic 1.5

If you just purchased the BidMagic construction estimating software for the first time, you can skip this section.

If you originally purchased BidMagic 1.2, and are upgrading to BidMagic 1.5, you will still be able to use your old templates and bids. However most of the new features in BidMagic 1.5 will not be available in in those files.

To get old bids or templates into a form that can use the new features, you’ll need to import them into the BidMagic 1.5 template.

To do so, follow these steps:

1. Open the bid or bidding template that you wish to convert to 1.5 format.
2. Choose Create Archive from the Data menu.
3. You will be asked for a name and location for the archive file. Click Save to accept the name and location suggested by BidMagic, or type in your own file name and click Save. BidMagic will take a few seconds to save the archive file.
4. If you want to save the unit prices used in a bid or template, choose Export Unit Prices from the Data menu. Otherwise, skip to step 8.
5. Click OK to save the price file in the BidMagic files folder. Click Save As to save it under a different name.
6. Click All Prices when asked what to export, then click OK.
7. Cick the Export All button when asked for the categories to export. BidMagic will then take a few moments to save the prices.
8. Choose Open from the File menu, and open the BidMagic 1.5 Template.
NOTE: In the lower right hand corner of the Welcome screen, you’ll see version information—make sure it reads Version 1.5. If it says 1.2, you’ve opened the wrong template!
9. After the template opens, you will be asked to make a copy. Enter any name you wish, but make sure the name is different from the name of the bid you are trying to convert. For example, if you are converting the Smith bid from 1.2 to 1.5 format, you might want to call it Smith 1.5 Bid.
10. Choose Open Archive from the Data menu.
11. You will be asked which archive file you wish to import. Choose the name of the archive file you created in Steps 1 and 2, and click Open.
12. If you want to use the old unit prices, choose Import Unit Prices from the Data menu. Otherwise, skip to step 17.
13. When asked which price file you would like to import from, choose the name of the price file you created in Steps 4 and 5, and click Open.
14. When asked if you would like to be warned about problems during the import, click OK.
15. When asked what prices you would like to import, click All Prices, then click OK.

16. When asked what kind of import you would like to do, select Replace Price Book, and click OK. BidMagic will now take a few minutes to import the prices.
17. If you are importing a bid, you are finished. If setting up a new template, choose Preferences from the Navigate menu, and turn on the Keep this File as a Template option.
18. Repeat steps 1 to 17 for each bid or template that you want to convert to the new BidMagic 1.5 format.
