Estimating Preferences

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

To change the way the BidMagic construction estimating software operates, choose Preferences from the Navigate menu. You'll go to a card where you can set the way BidMagic will handle certain functions.

Keep this file as a template

Turn on this option to convert any copy of BidMagic into an estimating template. When you open a template, it will encourage you to save a copy of the file.

Show Painting Menus

Turn on this option only if you'd like to modify the graphics in BidMagic. It will display the Tools menu, which provides several painting tools.

Include Sound Effects

Turn on this option to hear entertaining sound effects when you move between cards in BidMagic. Turn it off if you find them annoying.

HINT: Control the volume of sounds with the Control Panel (under the Apple menu).

Always Show Price Information

Turn on this option to always see the project cost in the Price Box at top center (see page 332).

Turn it off if you only want to see the project cost after you choose Calculate from the Bid menu, or click the Calculator button.

HINT: You may want to turn this option off when working directly with clients, so they aren't focused on the contract price all the time!

Rebuild Bid

In the rare case that the information within BidMagic is accidentally damaged by problems with the computer, click Rebuild Bid to put it back into order.

Nudge Button Speed

Slide the button left or right to control the speed of nudge buttons. There is a sample nudge button at the right that allows you to test the 'feel' of the speed.

HINTS: If you choose a faster speed, the nudge button will move faster, but it will also be harder to stop at just the right number. If you choose a slower speed, the nudge button will be more sluggish, but easier to control.
