NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

Scheduling Delay

Slide the button left or right to control the scheduling delay factor. The BidMagic scheduling software uses this factor when calculating the project completion date on the Bottom Line card.

Enter a positive delay factor (to the left) if you anticipate weather delays, problems in coordinating subcontractors, or other delays in the project schedule. The completion date will be delayed by the percentage that you use.

HINT: A scheduling delay factor of between 0 and 15% seems to work best for most builders.

Enter a negative delay factor (to the right) if you have a highly efficient crew that is able to coordinate work much more effectively than average.

The BidMagic construction estimating software will show you the days needed to complete the current project, both with and without the delay factor, so you can see how much impact the factor has.

NOTE: You won't be able to use this comparison until you've entered project information and calculated a price--so the project takes longer than 0 days!

Gross and Net Areas

For each construction area, click one of the radio buttons to determine whether unit prices are based on the gross area or the net area (excluding openings for doors, windows, skylights and stairways).

EXAMPLES: If you click Gross Area for Painting, the paint areas will be based on the total exterior and interior surface areas, ignoring door and window openings. If you click Net Area, they'll be based on the actual wall areas after the area of door and window openings are subtracted.

Compact BIDMAGIC

BidMagic periodically will 'tidy up' the memory it uses. This takes a bit of time, but cuts down on the amount of RAM and disk space used by BidMagic. Increase the free size quantity to reduce the frequency of compacting. Decrease it to minimize the disk space taken up by BidMagic

NOTE: For BidMagic to be compacted, you need to have at least 1,000 K free on your hard drive.

Construction Category System

Click on the category system you'd like to use for a cost breakdown on the Bottom Line card.

The BidMagic category system uses 31 cost categories, almost identical to those used in MacNail--the only difference is that BidMagic has Demolition as a separate category.

The CSI system uses 16 divisions. It is the cost system supported by Sweets, AIA, CSI, and some other organizations.

NOTE: Each system will arrive at the same total cost--it will just be divided into different categories.
