Estimating Commercial Construction

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

Commercial Construction Estimating

The BidMagic construction estimating software is set up for both residential and 'light' commercial construction--which would include offices, stores, restaurants, and other work involving 'stick' framing (whether wood or metal studs, joist or trusses are used). For some kinds of commercial work you'll need to add items to the price book--for example, fixtures, equipment and specialty finishes.

BidMagic software does not include prices for 'heavy' commercial framing--steel or concrete beams, long-span steel trusses, and similar items. However by adding those items to the price book, you should be able to handle larger commercial projects as well.

When estimating commercial projects, you may need to slightly adjust the vocabulary in the BidMagic estimating software. For example, on the Basic Dimensions card rooms such as 'living room' and 'dining room' are included. These are used only to arrive at a room count and have no other significance. If you have different types of rooms in your project, simply click on enough rooms of any type so the project is covered.
