Setting Construction Clause Flags

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail construction software back in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal, a complete software package for Macintosh and Windows. Goldenseal is an integrated construction business program that includes construction spec writing, plus accounting, construction estimating, and project management, The contract setup process in Goldenseal is much simpler!

Flagging Project Specifications

The Flags column lets you specify exactly how allowances, quantities and a few other items are treated in each clause. It includes letter codes (see pages 140-141) that tell the Spec Writer exactly how to handle various situations when a contract clause is made from that line.

Setting Flags

To set flags in a Clauses file in the MacNail construction management software, follow these steps:

1. Open the Clauses file.
2. Click the mouse in a row that you'd like to flag, or drag the mouse through several adjacent rows.
3. Choose Set Flags from the Options menu.
4. Select the way you'd like to handle allowances in the selected clauses. They can be flagged to have no allowance, a labor-and-materials allowance, or a materials-only allowance (see page 71).
5. Select the way you'd like to handle costs in the selected clauses. You can show no cost, an approximate cost, or the exact cost.
6. Select the way you'd like to handle details in the selected clauses. They can be treated as an adjective or an adverb, or they can always be added to the end of the clause (see page 133).
7. Turn on Include if no Estimate to include the item in contracts made from the Clauses file (see page 36).
8. Choose Use Only Phrase #1 to always use phrase type one. Use this for sentences that don't sound right when other phrase types are used (see page 134).
9. Turn on Spell out Quantity if you'd like the quantity to be spelled out in words. Instead of 86 square feet the clause will say 86 (eighty six) square feet.
10. Turn on Approximate Quantity to use an approximate quantity. Instead of 86 square feet the clause will say approximately 86 square feet.
11. Click OK.
