Scheduling Master Index

NOTE-- We retired MacNail in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction software. Goldenseal is designed for builders, remodelers and other small businesses, providing accounting, construction estimating, and project management, plus simple project scheduling. As a stand-alone software program, Goldenseal is much easier to use than the Excel-based MacNail program!

Using Master Files

The MacNail construction scheduling software uses several different Master Files to store information that is used by more than one MacNail module.

The Master Index

When you open the Master Reminder List, the Master Index is also opened. This file contains the job names and codes for each of your projects.

If you have MacNail Accounting on your hard disk, the Master Index in the Accounts folder will be used. Otherwise, the smaller Master Index in the MacNail project management software will be used.

Each project in the Master Index takes up one row. The first column lists the code number for that project, and the second column lists the actual project name.

When you make a new schedule or a new reminder list, the project name will be added to the Master Index if it is not already there. You can also type a name directly into the Master Index, next to the desired code number.

NOTE: Codes in the Master Index must be in ascending order, with the smallest numbers at the top. They can skip some numbers without causing problems.
