Project Crew Size

NOTE-- In 2000 we retired MacNail, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction software. However we still keep the manuals online, for die-hard MacNail users! Goldenseal runs on Macintosh and Windows computers, and handles accounting, construction estimating, and project management, plus simple construction project scheduling. In Goldenseal, you can also adjust the crew size, overall or for individual items of work.

Construction Project Crew Size

The MacNail construction scheduling software includes a "default" crew of skilled and unskilled workers. This number will be used for each item unless you enter a different number.

If you are setting up items in parallel, enter the actual crew size that will be working on each parallel branch. For items not in parallel, enter the total number of workers (all trades) that are working on the building at the same time.

The start date for each schedule item will be based on either the average or the maximum of skilled and unskilled crew days. To change the method of calculation, choose *Time Formulas from the Formula menu (see page 83).

To change the default crew size for the whole schedule:
1. Choose *Crew Size from the Formula menu.
2. Type in new values for skilled and unskilled crew size.
3. The new crew size will be used on all schedule items (except those that have been changed individually, which overrides the original formula in the MacNail project management software).

NOTE: Another way to change the crew size-- type numbers directly into the second row just below the Crew Size heading.

To change the default crew size for future schedules:
1. Choose *Scheduling Options from the Options menu.
2. Type in new values for skilled and unskilled crew size.

To change the crew size for just one particular item or a group of items:
1. Drag the mouse through either column E (skilled) or column F (unskilled) for all of the rows you would like to change.
2. Type in the new number of skilled or unskilled workers for the selected items.
3. Hold down the OPTION key, and type the Enter key. The new number will be entered into all selected cells.
