Finding Project Reminders

NOTE-- We replaced the entire MacNail software package with Goldenseal construction management software, back in 2000. Like MacNail, Goldenseal helps remodelers, construction contractors, and other project-based businesses to do accounting, construction estimating, and project management, plus simple construction project scheduling. There is a Find command in Goldenseal that helps you to find any type of records. You can also create reports, to see a list of items.

Finding Construction Project Reminders

All reminder lists and punch Lists are set up to let you find or extract data meeting certain criteria. For example, while cleaning up a punch list in the MacNail construction scheduling software, you may want to see all reminders that apply to the kitchen. To set "kitchen" as the criteria:

1. Scroll down to the bottom of the reminder list, where you will see a Query Box (it includes two copies of the column titles, with a blank criteria row between them).
2. Click on the desired category (in this case, "where?").
3. Type in the criteria you'd like to look for (in this case, "kitchen", "kitch", or possibly even "k").

Now you can either find or extract those items.
* To find, choose Find from the Data menu (or press Command-F). The boxes within the scroll bars will become striped while you are in this special "find mode". The first item that starts with "kitch" will be highlighted. When you use the scroll controls, you'll jump only to other items that match the same criteria.

To exit the find mode in the MacNail project management software, choose Exit Find from the Data menu (or click the mouse within the Query Box). The scroll bars will return to normal.
* To extract, choose *Extract Special from the Data menu. All items that match the criteria will be taken from the reminder list, and copied to a separate file. The new file will be named with the project name followed by "extract". For example, an extraction from Smith Reminder List will be named Smith Extract, or Smith Extract 12/1/90 if you are including the date in report file names (see page 96).
