Navigating in Estimate Specifications

NOTE--We retired MacNail back in 2000, and replaced it with the Goldenseal project estimating software. There are still many die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is a complete small-business software package that includes estimating, accounting, job costing and project management features.

Project Specification Data Entry

If you are starting an estimate directly in the MacNail construction estimating software:

Only a few construction items will be included automatically, if you start with one of the original MacNail estimators. You will need to scroll through the Specifications list, and enter all those items that will actually be included in the bid price.

Once you have set up the job, you can use it as a starting point for a custom estimator that will save you future data entry time (see page 144).

If you started from a custom estimator:

The project should already include all those items that you included in your custom estimator. You should scroll through the Specifications list and check for all items that are different from the conditions set up in the custom estimator.

Navigating

The Specifications list is arranged in rough chronological order, though not all jobs will follow it exactly.
To get to the top of the Specifications list, choose *Specifications from the MacNail menu.

To jump to a specific construction category in the Specifications list, choose *Go To Category from the MacNail menu.
