Estimating Custom Construction

NOTE-- Our new Goldenseal construction estimating software replaced MacNail back in 2000. There are still quite a few MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, job costing and project management features. It works great for custom, "high end" construction work, as well as more ordinary construction estimating.

High End Construction Estimates

Heavily customized construction, especially 'high-end' work, can be a real estimator's nightmare. It usually contains a lot of 'one of a kind' items that are hard to fix a price on.

When bidding very customized work, it's a good idea to scan carefully through the entire Specifications section of the MacNail construction estimating software--it will act as a 'checkoff list' to remind you of things to watch out for.

You'll also want to make extensive use of other framing, other trim, and special systems to add in unusual items.

You will still have to arrive at a 'quick and dirty' price for each individual item of custom detail--which is why the MacNail construction estimating software will never replace experienced estimators, only help them out!
