Basic Estimators

NOTE-- In 2000 we retired MacNail and BidMagic (our previous estimating programs), and introduced Goldenseal construction estimating software to replace them. There are still quite a few die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal also includes accounting, job costing and project management features. In Goldenseal, you can easily switch between different category systems in the same estimate, so you don't need multiple estimators using different cost categories.

The Basic Estimators

These estimators form the basis for all the other estimators in the MacNail construction estimating software. They are able to accept projects from the Hyper*Estimator and Hyper *Remodeler.

* MacNail Estimator--MacNail is the most complete--and also the slowest to open. It contains a complete list of about 1000 construction items. It breaks each project down into 30 main construction categories (e.g. Interior Trim). Each category is further divided into subcategories (e.g. Baseboards, Stair Trim).

* CSI Estimator--This is about the same size as the MacNail Estimator. Categories are arranged in the 16 standard Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) divisions (e.g. Division 9: Finishes). Each division is further broken down into subdivisions (e.g. Baseboards, Stair Trim).
