Estimate Troubleshooting

NOTE-- In 2000 we completely replaced MacNail with the newer Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, job costing and contract writing features. It's a stand-alone program that stores all data in a single company file, which increases reliability enormously.

The Application is Busy or Missing.

You probably don't have Excel on your hard disk. You need the Excel application in order to run the MacNail construction estimating software.

The Keyboard doesn't work -or-The Mouse doesn't work -or-The Screen is Frozen

If nothing seems to be moving for more than 30 seconds or so, try typing Command-period.
If that does not work, check the connections of your mouse and/or keyboard. They may have been accidentally detached.
If that does not work, you probably have a 'System hang'. Press the restart button (if you have it installed), or turn the computer off and then on again.
WARNING: All changes made since the last Save will be destroyed. Please Save frequently!
If you have many system hangs, you may have a software incompatibility. For best results, avoid Public Domain programs that have not been thoroughly tested. Keep INITs and other toys to a minimum. Use the latest version of System, Finder, and Excel. Test your computer for virus infections. In general, keep a 'clean' system! Our programming cannot cause bombs and hangs--the Excel macro language does not allow us to do anything that dangerous. However, we will be happy to advise you if you have had frequent System problems.

The windows don't look right!

Choose *Reset Windows from the FORMAT menu. Then choose it again, if needed. All windows will be drawn in their proper locations.
