Estimating Summary Dimensions

NOTE-- In 2000 we introduced Goldenseal construction estimating software, and retired MacNail and BidMagic (our previous estimating programs). There are still die-hard users out there, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, job costing and project management features. The dimensions in Goldenseal are mostly derived from BidMagic, and are more complete that what we used in the MacNail estimating programs.

Dimensions Summary

You will note that all of these cells are italic--they contain Excel formulas that calculate a 'best guess', based on the other dimensions you have already entered. Check the following measurements in the MacNail construction estimating software:

NOTE: To see the 'suggested' dimensions, choose Calculate Now from the OPTIONS menu.

1. We will also be installing carpet in the existing living room. Add 280 sq. ft. to the floor finish area (for a total of 540).
2. Type in 18 total interior corners (four for each room and/or closet, plus an extra two for the dogleg in the family room).
3. Type in 6 total exterior corners (count both 'concave' and 'convex' corners in the outside wall).
4. You can add about 50 square feet to the siding area (to account for the 'triangles' added by the slope of the shed roof). Type in a new number that is 50 higher than the calculated siding area (for a total of 446).
NOTE: Minor details like this can often be disregarded safely. They usually won't have enough impact on the total price to be worth the bother of calculating.
5. Leave all the other suggested values alone--they should be correct as calculated.
