Estimating Crawl Spaces

NOTE-- We replaced MacNail with Goldenseal construction estimating software back in 2000. There are still die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, job costing and project management features. You'll handle crawl spaces and foundation estimates in Goldenseal almost exactly the same as in MacNail.

Crawl Spaces

The MacNail construction software can handle any type of foundation details. Here's the best way to handle buildings that include a crawl space under the floor of the first story:

1. Set all basement dimensions to 0 (zero).
2. Enter the depth from average ground level to the footer into footer depth (in Dimensions, see page 79).
3. Enter the height of the first story floor above the average ground level into floor height (in Dimensions, see page 79).
4. If you are installing a moisture barrier, gravel, or rodent-proofing over the ground surface in the crawl space, add them as line items in Specifications. You can use area1 as the 'suggested quantity'.
