Unit Costs from Units-per-Time |
NOTE-- We retired the MacNail estimating program in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal estimating software. There are still die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is integrated software that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. Calculating Construction Unit Costs For labor costs it is sometimes easier to start with the number of units that can be done by a crew in an hour, day or week. To convert that to a number you can use in the Specifications portion of the MacNail construction estimating software, use these formulas: skilled hrs/unit = F(skilled crew size * hours, total number of units) EXAMPLE: if a crew of three skilled carpenters and one unskilled helper can install 25 prehung doors in a day, then the skilled unit price will be equal to 3*8/25, or .96 hours per door. The unskilled unit price will be equal to 1*8/25, or .32 hours per door. |
