Installing MacNail Customizing

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail estimating program in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal also includes accounting, job costing and payroll, plus some project management features.

Installing MacNail Customizing

One disk is mailed as a part of this package. It includes all of the files you need to run MacNail Customizing, in 'compressed' form.

To load MacNail Customizing onto your Macintosh hard disk:

1. Put the MacNail Customizing disk into your floppy disk drive. If the MacNail Customizing floppy disk window is not already open, double-click on its icon to open it.
2. Double-click on the MacNail Cust 3.0 Installer.
3. You'll be asked where to install MacNail Customizing. Click OK to install it directly on your hard disk, or click the Drive or Desktop button to switch to another location, then click OK.
4. The installation will take a minute or two. When it is done, there will be a Customizing folder on your hard disk, plus a copy of the MacNail Manager.
5. You should already have a MacNail folder on your hard disk, created when you installed MacNail Estimating or MacNail Accounting-- it was probably named 'MacNail' or something similar. Drag the Customizing folder into this MacNail folder. If you are asked whether to replace the existing Customizing folder, click OK.
WARNING: If you are actively using an earlier version of MacNail Customizing, you should first rename its folder to 'Old Customizing' or something similar, so you can keep a copy of your old Customizing files on hand.
6. Drag the MacNail Manager into the MacNail folder. If you are asked whether to replace the existing MacNail Manager, click OK.
7. When you double-click on the MacNail folder, it should look similar to the illustration on the following page. You may not have all of the listed MacNail folders if you have not purchased all of the MacNail project management software modules or have not yet installed them on your hard disk.
8. Make sure that the inside of your Customizing folder looks like the illustration on page 12.
9. The installation is now complete, and you can proceed to the next chapter.
