Entering Material Costs

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail estimating program in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. We keep these instructions online for our die-hard MacNail users! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing. It has an improved system of material price updating, to keep estimates more accurate.

Once you've found each material item for which you have a new price, simply type the latest price into the net price column. In most cases you should use the basic 'list price' of an item, without discounts, markup, sales tax or delivery charges.

WARNING: If an item has 'compared' as a source, it should be entered into a Comparisons file instead (see page 103).

You should also enter today's date into the date column, so The MacNail construction management software will know that the price has been updated recently. Click in the cell and type command-hyphen to do that quickly.

See pages 178-180 for more about Price Sheets.
