Changing an Estimator Blank

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail estimating program in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still a significant number of die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing. It uses Estimate templates, to serve a function that is similar to MacNail Estimators and Estimator Blanks.

To Change an Estimator Blank

You can change just about anything in the Fixed Costs or Dimensions portions of an Estimator Blank. See pages 61 to 65 for information about some of the things you can change in the MacNail construction management software.

You can also change the cosmetic formatting of any section of your future estimators by changing the appropriate section of the Estimator Blank.

For example, if you'd like to replace subcontractor costs with equipment costs in your future estimators, click in the title lines for the Summation, Clearinghouse and Specifications in the Estimator Blank, and type 'equipment' or an abbreviation, instead of 'subs'.

You can also change color or number formatting, column widths, fonts or font sizes in the Estimator Blank. Any changes you make will show up in future estimators.

WARNING: The current versions of MacNail Estimating and Accounting look at the boldness of the first column in the Clearinghouse and Specifications so they'll know which rows are titles. The 'Clearinghouse Title' cell and the 'Specs Heading' cell must be in bold, while the 'Clearinghouse item' and 'Specs item' cells must be in plain text.
If you're not sure whether a change is 'kosher', please give our tech support staff a call-- they'd be happy to let you know just what you can and can't change in the MacNail construction estimating software!
